Padel Tennis Shoes: How to Choose the Right Pair

The right padel tennis shoes make a real difference: padel involves constant lateral movement, quick stops and changes of direction on a sand-filled artificial-turf court. A dedicated shoe protects your joints and gives you the grip and stability you need.
What to look for in padel shoes
- Outsole pattern. A herringbone (fishbone) or omni sole grips best on artificial grass with sand — very similar to a clay-court tennis shoe, which also works well for padel.
- Lateral support. Reinforced sides keep your foot stable during fast direction changes and prevent rolling your ankle.
- Cushioning. Good midsole cushioning (e.g. gel or foam) absorbs the many stops and jumps.
- Durability. Reinforced toe and abrasion-resistant materials last longer on abrasive courts.
Padel vs tennis shoes
Padel-specific shoes are ideal, but clay-court (or « omni ») tennis shoes are a perfectly good alternative thanks to their herringbone sole. Avoid smooth-soled running shoes: they offer no lateral grip and wear out quickly.

Care tips
Brush off the sand after playing, let them dry naturally, and keep a dedicated pair for the court to preserve the sole’s grip.
